Privacy Policy

BetterHalve ("the app") is an iOS app built by Luke Beretta. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address via Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple.

When you use the app, we store the expense and financial data you enter — including descriptions, amounts, categories, dates, and how costs are split between you and your partner. Settlement records and recurring expense configurations are also stored.

Your household settings (name and currency preference) and your device's locale and region are stored to personalise currency defaults and AI context.

Exchange rates fetched from a third-party API are cached locally on your device for 24 hours.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to operate the app — to sync expenses between partners, calculate balances, process recurring expenses, and generate spending insights.

Expense descriptions and spending summaries are sent to the Google Gemini API to generate AI-powered insights. This data is processed according to Google's API terms and is not used to train models.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

• Firebase (Google) — authentication and cloud database storage
• Google Sign-In — account creation and authentication
• Sign in with Apple — account creation and authentication
• Google Gemini API — AI-powered expense categorisation and spending insights
• Frankfurter API — live currency exchange rates (no personal data is sent)
• DiceBear API — avatar generation (no personal data is sent)

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore. Firebase applies industry-standard security measures and data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Access to your household data is restricted to you and your partner. No other users can view your expenses or financial information.

Your data is retained until you delete your account. Upon deletion, all personal data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

Your Rights

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the app: go to Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

Changes

This policy may be updated from time to time. Significant changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
